Our Story
Bonson’s story begins in 1984. Founded by the Tsui family as a small packaging company in a modest warehouse in Auckland, New Zealand, it has grown ever since. With a mission to create advantage in everything we do, all Bonson’s packaging solutions come with a different level of care – everyone genuinely cares about their collective contribution.
Today we are one of the leading food packaging suppliers and manufacturers in Australasia, providing diverse product ranges that are in high demand. Our innovation and manufacturing capabilities are internationally recognised by the food industry. We are proud to be supplying Australasia’s big and small food companies to help them create advantages through innovative packaging.
Over 40 years, 8 brands, thousands of products - one belief
From a small family of relatives to the now greatly extended Bonson team of 60 'family' members, we remain a family run business and the original core values on which the business was built are still central to the business. Our values are integrated in how we approach service, innovation and sustainability. Bonson milestones
1984 — BONSON Plastics was founded
1990 — SAVPAC Marketing Co. Ltd. was incorporated
1994 — BONSON Industrial Co. Ltd. was incorporated
1995 — Operation and production shifted to 47 Lansford Cres., Avondale
1996 — BetterSelection™ range was launched
1997 — Our first container to Australia
1998 — Our new warehouse at 43 Lansford Cres. Avondale was built
1999 — Homeal™ range was launched
2001 — Production was shifted to 12 Barrhead Place, Avondale
2002 — ISO 9001: 2000 Management System & HACCP Food Safety Program certified
2004 — ISO 14001 certified
2005 — Warehouse was extended to 97 Lansford Cres., Avondale
2006 — BioChoice™ range was launched
2007 — ClearVision™ range was launched
2008 — In Mould Labelling (IML) process was introduced
2010 — BonsonTE™ range was launched
2011 — BONSON received two New Zealand Pride in Print Gold Awards
— Relocated to 59-65 Portage Road, New Lynn, Auckland
2014 — BONSON’s celebration for 30 years of manufacturing success
2015 — Packaging Council Australia Design Award
2016 — Worldstar Packaging Award
2018 — Bonson-Savpac Pty Ltd was incorporated in Australia
2019 — Acquisition of Wong Lee Pty Ltd. in Australia
2020 — Rebranding of BONSON-SAVPAC
— FSSC 22000 Food Safety System Certification certified
2022 — Commissioned thermoforming machinery and manufactured our first recycled PET product
2024 — BONSON’s celebration for 40 years of manufacturing success
2025 — Launched the first trial of RePlay Return™ with New World
